Independent Petrophysical Consulting - Integrated Petrophysics

Operating from Calgary, Alberta, Aptian Technical provides independent petrophysical consulting services to the Canadian and International energy industry. Aptian can meet short timeline requirements and provide immediate results while the well is waiting.

Consulting work is primarily multi-well studies, ranging from 3 to 300 wells. Results are used to quantify reservoir parameters and build three-dimensional grids for flow-simulation.

Aptian also evaluates underground source of drinking water (USDW) wells, lithium extraction wells, geothermal and helium wells, carbon dioxide sequestration (CCS) wells and disposal wells.

Companies rely upon Aptian's proprietary approach to calculate mechanical rock properties, based on reconstructing sonic and density logs to eliminate light hydrocarbon, organic matter and bad borehole effects. Rock properties are used to design treatments and maximize stimulated reservoir volume.

Engaging Aptian means your petrophysical problems will be solved with personalized service, using the best available software and tools, all backed by a depth of experience.

Aptian Technical lives petrophysics and provides client support 24/7.

Updates and Addtions To Resources

The Rw vs. Temperature Interactive Crossplot has been updated. This crossplot displays water resistivity (Rw) as a function of temperature and now includes solution concentration outputs in mg/L and ppm (salinity), as well as solution density. These outputs allow a direct comparison to water analysis reports, making Rw assignment easier.

A chart which presents water resistivity (Rw) at 25 deg. C vs. NaCl salinity, based on Schlumberger's Gen 9 chart is now available. With this chart, it is easy to determine Rw at a given salinity (the original Gen 9 Chart requires the user to follow a line across a large temperature range, making accuracy difficult, especially at high salinities).

A NaCl solution density at 25 deg. C vs. NaCl concentration (ppm and mg/L) chart is now available. This chart is useful because it allows the user to determine solution density at a given NaCl concentration, which then enables conversion from mg/L to ppm, or vice versa.

Poisson's Ratio vs. Compressional to Shear Velocity Ratio (VPVS) Interactive Crossplot has been added. This crossplot is used to determine Poisson's ratio and identify intervals which might be affected by light hydrocarbon.

Client Comments

“The merged compressional sonic log that you created now ties the seismic from surface to TD. Great job.”

N. K., Senior Geophysicist

“Thanks Dorian, this is why we keep coming back to you. Hassle free, no BS service, very refreshing.”

Z.J., Senior Geologist

“Many thanks Dorian, excellent work.”

J.C., Lead Geoscientist

“Thanks again Dorian.  And BTW, your analysis helped us enormously with our reserves evaluations. Your company does hold authority.”

P.T., Vice President Exploration

“Thanks Dorian, I knew you would come through. This is one of the reasons we keep coming back to you…you always deliver.”

Z.J., Vice President Exploration

“Hi Dorian, I was just going through the mapping and it looks great so far! Very happy with what I’m seeing.”

J.G., Senior Geologist

“Thanks Dorian for the quick turnaround. Your proposal for petrophysical services looks very good (impressive) and I will be approving.”

A.B., Vice President Geosciences

“Your petrophysical model matches core very closely.”

B.E., Senior Engineer

“Hi Dorian, Thanks for solving those problems. You have a black belt in petrophysics.”

S.R., Senior Geophysicist

“Excellent work! Thank you for the speed!!!”

R. R., Senior Engineer

“Thank you for your petrophysical evaluation. We appreciate that it is ahead of schedule.”
